vocals are performed well, but the treatment makes them a little too bassy in some spots especially in the lower register portions of your vocal line, melody reminds me of something from shania (and i mean that in a very good way, not that it's any sort of rip off)
i'm not wild about the drum tones, kinda 80s sounding.
all that negative stuff out of the way, this is a top notch piece of song writting, your vocal performance is outstanding and i love how the bass is tight and in the pocket. the little triangle part is tasteful and subtle. everything about this song (with the exception of the recording issues i mentioned) oozes professionalism and a great piece of music.

Very nicely done. My only nit is the snare. A bit to up front in the mix, but thats probably just my taste. It by no means takes away from the song as a whole. Sweet vocals! Peace, Ron

A beautiful piece of work... full and rich, and a really sweet melody gets a healthy push along from the rhythm section, creating a wonderful gently thrilling atmosphere... of course the vox are sweet and sultry as well... lovely stuff!

Oooh.
What a magnificent voice... Very sweet tune, love the jangly pop guitar. Akin to "The Sundays" w/o the extremely highhhhhhhhh (and somewhat painful at times) Hariett Wheeler vocals.
Beautiful.

I like this one a lot. Wistful and sad.
A great showcase for a really sweet voice - reminds me of (for lack of a better reference) Ann Wilson of Heart. Really nice guitar playing and super-clean production.

I agree with jeddak, but also, the GUITAR style has sorta that "Nancy Wilson" of the "good early" Heart.
You did BOTH vox and gtr don't ya steph?

Stephanie, the song is great, but it's not folk. Somewhere after the mid 60s, the line between folk and country began to blur. My dear, what you have is a Country song. Folksongs deal with the sum total of life's experiences, not a select few, or the one dealt with in this song. Lost love, love gone wrong - it's all Country material!

do you know, the way it feels
to love a girl and know she's real?
do you recall her gentle kiss
behind the trees in the summer mist
with you? with you?
i was your fool. was i your first fool?
took her hand and held it tight
walked thru the fields in the moonlight.
she opened up and let you in
to the deepest depths, she let you win her soul.
i was your fool. was i your first fool?
driving home, thru the rain, dodging the trees that pulled my pain
i asked how could this be? how could someone do this me?
do you know, the way it feels
to love a girl and know she's real?
do you recall her gentle kiss
behind the trees in the summer mist
with you? with you?
i was your fool.
i was your fool.
was i your fool?
and he said to me, he was your fool, your first fool.
